"Think global, Act local"
Climate change is a global problem, but the solutions are on our doorstep. The internet is the perfect example of global communication bringing people together at the human scale. Communication enabled by the internet means that much smaller groups are viable and can make a big impact. People can now find online that small local Bristol business that they need quickly and easily, rather than defaulting to the larger more obvious choice. Localisation brings people together, forms communities and builds resiliance. We work locally - in Bristol and the South West, building good working relationships with customers and suppliers. This reduces travel and usually means we can meet with you in person, and tailor a solution to your individual requirements. As a small business, we can also skill share - trading websites for other goods or services. "Doing our bit"
We believe that the environment is important and we are constantly striving to reduce our impact. As part of our sustainable website design ethic we already: Reduce usage where possible, for instance in energy usage through low energy appliances (computers, lightbulbs etc), good working practices (turning off computers when not in use) and working paperlessly where ever possible. Re-use items like paper, card, computers and anything else that we can. Re-cyle everything possible that our household and company uses, including the normal paper, plastics and other waste. We dispose of any waste electrical items, like computers, responsilbly, re-using if possible or recycling. "We take our ethics home with us"Our commitment to the environment doesn't stop at 5 o'clock. We're fueled where possible on organic, local food from our Bristol allotment and garden, we consciously avoid air-frieghted food (anything further than Spain) and eat what is seasonally available. We're not extreme, because we don't think that is sustainable or realistic. But there are simple ways to reduce our carbon footprint and we take them. "Reduce, re-use, recycle, offset"
Our office uses green electricity, but there is no getting away from using some energy. Offsetting in our opinion isn't the answer, but it's a step in the right direction if emissions are unaviodable. Our hosting provider, NativeSpace, offset the emissions generated by the energy to run their servers, to make them a 'carbon neutral' web hosting company. Their offsetting project is a 3.6 megawatt wind farm based at Tamil Nadu in Southern India. They also use Green energy to power their offices and are paper free whenever possible.
